NISAU Mentoring Scheme

NISAU Mentoring Scheme

Apply to be a NISAU Mentor or Mentee for the 2018-19 Mentoring Programme

Every year, thousands of Indian students come to the UK to study. Most students are academically excellent and get enrolled into leading British universities. A key reason that Indian students continue to seek a British education is due to the opportunity for global and world-class exposure - gained through both living, and studying in the UK, and through any work experience they can gain, during or post-studies in the UK.

However, it is our understanding gained through interactions with many students and academics, personal experiences and observations, that Indian students are not necessarily able to make the most of their time in the UK due to a lack of consistent and focused guidance.

Indian students are powerhouses of talent who can transform India on all levels - socially, economically, politically and otherwise. Their energies must be channeled such that they are able to focus on their areas of professional interest and skill, develop a social conscience and an implicit nature of giving back to society, and ultimately become successful in their own fields, whatever paths they make choose to take.

Equally, there are plenty of Indian success stories waiting to be shared and learnt from. Many mid-senior level professionals now based all over the UK are of Indian origin and have trotted the same path that today's Indian students will now embark upon.

The NISAU Mentoring Scheme provides an opportunity for Indian students studying at universities all over the UK to be mentored by successful professionals so that they are empowered to make decisions that allow them to become professionally successful, and conscious to contribute to society. Equally, mentors gain through various ways; mentoring is a gratifying experience."

The NISAU Youth Mentor Programme is a unique, values based mentoring programme for students of Indian origin to facilitate the transformation of students into successful young professionals who can make a positive contribution to UK-India relations.

Who is this open to?

The programme is open to all Indian-origin students regardless of year of study. There will be an application process with a pre-assessment focussing on values (integrity, team-work, flexibility, inclusivity), willingness to learn, career objectives and contributing back to the mentoring programme in future years.

Who can be a Mentor?

Mentors should have significant work or business experience in the UK and must be able to commit to one face-to-face meeting, for at least two hours, per month with their mentees. Mentors will be subject to pre-assessment focusing on values (service, integrity, inclusivity, excellence) and willingness to invest time and efforts to the mentoring programme.
